Most dental clinics keep the same hours as the job that stops you from visiting them. If you work nine to five anywhere near downtown, booking a checkup means taking time off, and a lot of people simply don’t — until something starts hurting.
That’s the practical reason we run evening and Saturday appointments at Woodbine and Danforth. This page sets out exactly when we’re open, what can realistically be done in an after-hours appointment, what to do if something goes wrong when we’re closed, and how to get here from around East York.
Our Evening and Saturday Hours

We’re at 2107 Danforth Avenue, and you can reach us on 416-696-1800. Late-afternoon and Saturday slots are the first to fill, so it’s worth booking those a little further ahead.
Why Finding a Dentist Open After Work Is Hard in Toronto
Traditional dental hours exist for reasons that have little to do with patients. Dental labs, suppliers and specialist referrals all run on weekday business hours, and staffing an evening or weekend shift costs more.
The result is a familiar pattern: people postpone routine visits because the only appointments available clash with work, small problems quietly become large ones, and the next appointment ends up being an urgent one that costs considerably more.
Weekday evenings and Saturdays exist to break that cycle. A cleaning and checkup you can actually attend twice a year is worth far more than an excellent clinic you can never get to.
What You Can Get Done in an Evening or Saturday Appointment
Practically everything we do during the day. Our evening and Saturday appointments aren’t a reduced service:
- Checkups and cleanings. The routine visit most people put off. General dentistry appointments run right through the evening.
- Fillings. Straightforward restorations fit comfortably into an after-work slot.
- Emergency assessment. Toothache, a broken tooth or a lost filling — call and we’ll get you seen as soon as we can. See our emergency dental care page.
- Invisalign check-ins. Aligner reviews are short and frequent, which makes them ideal for evening slots. More on Invisalign at Woodbine and Danforth.
- Crowns, bridges and dentures. Multi-visit treatment where evening appointments save taking repeated days off.
- Whitening and cosmetic consultations. Including teeth whitening and cosmetic treatment planning.
- Children’s appointments. Saturdays work well for families, since nobody misses school or work.
Longer procedures such as surgical extractions are usually better scheduled earlier in the day, simply so there’s recovery time before the evening. We’ll tell you if that applies when you book.
Dental Emergencies When We’re Closed
Some things can’t wait until Monday. A rough guide to what needs immediate attention and what can safely hold:
Go to a hospital emergency department now if you have:
- Facial swelling that’s spreading, particularly towards the eye or down the neck
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Fever alongside dental pain and swelling
- Bleeding you can’t stop with 15 minutes of firm pressure
- Any facial injury involving possible fractures or loss of consciousness
Hospital emergency departments in Toronto will manage pain, infection and bleeding, but they generally don’t do definitive dental treatment. You’ll still need a dentist afterwards — so call us as soon as we open.
Time-critical, call us first thing:
- A knocked-out adult tooth. This is the one genuine race against the clock. Handle it by the crown, not the root, rinse it gently in milk or saline if it’s dirty, and if you can, put it straight back in the socket and bite on a clean cloth. If you can’t, keep it in milk — not water. It needs to be re-implanted within about an hour for the best chance of survival.
- A tooth pushed out of position after an injury.
- A cracked tooth with severe pain, especially with sensitivity to heat.
Uncomfortable, but it can wait:
- A lost filling or crown with no significant pain — keep the area clean and avoid chewing on it
- A chipped tooth that isn’t sharp or painful
- Mild, intermittent sensitivity
- Food trapped between teeth — floss gently rather than using anything sharp
- A broken or lost retainer — not urgent, but don’t leave it for weeks, since teeth start drifting quickly. See our guide to retainer replacement costs.
For ongoing pain overnight, over-the-counter painkillers used as directed on the packet, a cold compress against the cheek, and sleeping propped up will usually get you through until morning. Don’t hold aspirin against the gum — it burns the tissue.
Getting Here from Around East York
We’re on Danforth Avenue near Woodbine, which makes us straightforward to reach after work without driving into the core.
- By subway: we’re steps from Woodbine station on Line 2, so we’re an easy stop on the way home from downtown.
- By bus: the Woodbine and Coxwell routes both connect north into East York and south towards the Beaches.
- By car: Danforth Avenue runs straight across the east end, with street parking and Green P options nearby. Evening parking is generally easier than midday.
We regularly see patients from Woodbine Heights, Danforth Village, Old East York, the Upper Beaches, Greenwood–Coxwell, O’Connor–Parkview, Greektown, Leslieville and Main and Danforth. If you’re comparing clinics in the area, our guide to dental practices on the Danforth covers the main options along the strip.
Booking an Evening or Saturday Appointment
Call 416-696-1800 or send us a message. If you’re in pain, say so when you call — urgent cases are prioritised rather than queued.
Worth having ready for a first visit:
- Your dental insurance details, or your coverage information if you’re covered under a government plan — we can check what applies before treatment starts
- A list of any medications you take
- Any relevant medical history, particularly heart conditions, diabetes, or blood thinners
- Recent X-rays from a previous dentist, if you have them
New patients are welcome, and you don’t need a referral to book.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a dentist open on Saturdays in East York?
Yes. Woodbine & Danforth Dental Care is open Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at 2107 Danforth Avenue, near Woodbine station. Saturday appointments cover the same treatments as weekdays, including checkups, cleanings, fillings and emergency assessment.
How late is your dental clinic open on weekdays?
We’re open until 7:00 pm Monday through Friday, which means you can book after most standard workdays without taking time off.
Do you charge more for evening or Saturday appointments?
No. Our fees are the same regardless of when you book.
Can I get an emergency dental appointment on a Saturday?
Yes. Call 416-696-1800 as early in the day as you can and explain what’s happening. We keep room for urgent cases. If you have spreading facial swelling, difficulty breathing or uncontrolled bleeding, go to a hospital emergency department instead.
Do I need to be an existing patient to book?
No. We accept new patients, and no referral is needed.
What should I do if I lose a tooth after you’ve closed?
For a knocked-out adult tooth, handle it by the crown rather than the root, and if possible place it back in the socket and bite gently on a clean cloth. If you can’t, store it in milk and get to a dentist or emergency department quickly — re-implantation works best within about an hour.
Book a Time That Actually Works
Dental care you can fit around your week is dental care that actually happens. If weekday daytime appointments are the reason you’ve been putting off a checkup, an evening or Saturday slot solves it.
